Adult Students

Adults who already play some violin or other style of fiddle and wish to learn Irish fiddling are welcome here. We can work together to set goals and create an individual curriculum.

Adult beginner students are encouraged to start with the same fundamentals as beginner children, in order to encourage good technique. Once the basics of ergonomics, theory, fingering & bowing techniques, and tone production are established, we can work together to set goals and create your curriculum.

Parents of Minor Students

At least one parent or guardian must accompany the student to each lesson. Please note what your child is working on and be available to offer assistance, if needed, to the student during practice time between lessons. Other occasional events may also require parent or guardian attendance, such as recitals or group workshops. If your child is starting violin in elementary school, I recommend taking basic lessons for yourself before starting your child. Learning together but starting a little bit ahead means that you will be best able to make music with them in the days between weekly lessons. Young children learn best from their parents.

Skype or other online tools

Music students who are feeling unwell or live outside the Houston, TX area can arrange lessons via Skype or similar tools. Lessons missed or interrupted due to technical difficulties are eligible for rescheduling.

Rescheduling

Lessons are eligible to be rescheduled for a different day of the week (as available) if notice is given by phone or email at least 24 hours in advance. You will be charged for missed lessons if no notice is given. Please arrive on time to make use of the full duration of your lesson.

Payment

All lessons must be paid for in advance per month. I accept cash, checks, and most cards. The monthly fee of $230 includes one 60 minute lesson per week and two group classes, to meet every other week starting in the fall.

30 minute lessons are $35 each (recommended only for very young musicians)

Beginner students will not need an instrument for the first several lessons. Once you do, I will be happy to go shopping with you.

Also budget for minor incidental costs, such as a metronome, tuner, music stand, books, flashcards for children, instrument maintenance, and accompanist fees for recitals, etc. Some of these may be optional depending on how your lessons go.
